Marshall University’s College of Science will begin its community lecture series, “Dine and Discover,” for the spring semester at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Black Sheep Burritos and Brews, 1555 3rd Ave. in Huntington. Daniel Kaufman, assistant professor of art and design at Marshall, will present “Imaging the Landscape.”
Kaufman’s talk will be about Superfund sites, including what they are and a brief history, using Love Canal in New York as an example.

Internationally Acclaimed Play To Be Performed at Joan C. Edwards Playhouse

“Snapshot,” a play by local artist Carmen Mitzi Sinnott, will be performed in the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse on Marshall University’s Huntington campus at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9.

The play is about Sinnott’s search for her African American father, Lorenzo Batts, a popular and talented Huntington native who left for the Vietnam War before she was born. Once again the city of Huntington showed the world that great things can be accomplished by a small, determined group of people this past weekend. Friday, September 23, 2011, A group of citizens and corporate volunteers that call themselves “Friends of the Keith” Gathered with the people of Huntington for the Save Our Sign Fund Raiser in order to restore the damaged, yet iconic neon Keith Albee Sign.

Visual artists John Farley, director of art galleries at Marshall University, and Marshall art and design major Lorin Michki will present a joint exhibition of their work at Gallery 842 in Huntington beginning Friday, Aug. 19.
Their exhibition, (re)discovery, opens at 6 p.m. Aug. 19 with a reception, which is free and open to the public.
Farley, of Huntington, is a Marshall University alumnus and was recently named The Herald-Dispatch Arts Citizen of the Year. Michki, also of Huntington, is an award-winning student whose emphasis is in printmaking.

More than 70 competitors took part in the Marshall Recreation Center Indoor Triathlon this past Saturday, swimming, biking and running their way to the finish line.
Racers swam 300 yards, biked eight miles on state-of-the-art spin bikes, then ran two miles on treadmills. Proceeds will benefit Children’s Place and the Sue-Niestroy Wilson Memorial Fitness Scholarship.
Alex Overmiller placed first for overall male, with a time of 29 minutes, 41 seconds. Kathleen Taylog Bartley placed first for overall female, with a time of 34 minutes, 24 seconds.

Gallery 842 Opening
Gallery 842′s newest exhibit opens tonight: “On Spirituality: Emerging Visions of the Spiritual”. The exhibition opens tonight, Friday, January 21 with a reception from 6-8 pm  and will remain on display through February 18.  Gallery 842 is located at 842 4th Avenue in Huntington.
